Musculoskeletal Ultrasound
Ultrasound is an excellent tool that can be used to evaluate: effusions/synovial proliferation, joint surface irregularities/erosions, tenosynovitis, bursitis, enthesitis, tears of tendons, ligaments and muscles, peripheral nerve disorders, calcifications and osteophytes and loose joint bodies. treatments done under ultrasound can be more effective. Procedures that can be performed under ultrasound guidance include joint aspirations and injections.
Joint Injections
There are several types of joint injections which can be administered. These injections include viscosupplements and steroid (cortisone) injections. Viscosupplementation is a procedure that involves the injection of gel-like substances into a joint to supplement the viscous properties of synovial fluid. Steroid injections can be used to target effective anti-inflammatory treatment to a specific painful joint.
Infusion Treatment
Infusion therapy involves the administration of medication through a needle or catheter. It is prescribed when a patient's condition is so severe that it cannot be treated effectively by oral medications or patients who have failed to other available treatments. Example of infusion medications are:Rituxan, Orencia, Simponi Aria, Remicade, and Actemra.
